Fear and Faith Don’t Mix

Hello and welcome back to Mahalia’s Inspirations, where we are waking up with faith.

Today, I just wanted to encourage you to take a stand. If you’re reading the title, then you can probably guess where this is going—and you’re correct: fear and faith don’t mix.

Have you ever eaten or drunk something and immediately thought, something isn’t right about this? Like water and oil, they simply don’t mix well. The same goes for fear and faith when they are speaking at the same time.

Faith says to be courageous, not be afraid, and trust God. Meanwhile, fear says, “It’s too risky,” “It’s going to go wrong,” or “You can’t do it.” They go against each other, and eventually, one will overpower the other.

In the Bible, it says, “No one can serve two masters” (Matthew 6:24 NIV). I’ve often heard people reference this scripture by saying, “You can’t serve God and the devil,” or “You can’t have one foot in church and one foot in the world.” While those sayings are true, it can also be simplified this way: fear and faith can’t live together. So, what voice is speaking in your life today?

Fear Cripples, Faith Strengthens

Fear cripples you and causes you to stay stagnant and not move. Faith, on the other hand, says, “Do not be afraid. Be courageous. Trust God with each step.”

Once fear begins controlling the narrative of your life, you may find yourself far from what God intended for you. Fear likes to play tricks. It feeds off doubt, unhealed wounds, questions, and uncertainty. But faith says, “I see all of that, but with God, there is still hope.” Faith will always speak hope.

The definition of faith is:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV).

That means there is hope and grace for the steps you can’t calculate and for the things you cannot yet see.

There’s a story in the Bible where Peter walks on water. Jesus tells Peter, “Come.” As Peter began to walk, he noticed the wind picking up and became afraid. Jesus saved him and said, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:22–33 NIV).

I don’t know about you, but there have been many times when I have been like Peter and doubted. As each day unfolds, I am learning to depend more on God and walk in faith with every step.

Maybe fear and faith are speaking in your life today. Let this be a reminder that fear and faith cannot live together. Don’t let the storms of life take your eyes off God. You have to take a stand, and I hope you choose faith.

I hope this encouraged you, and may you take a stand and walk in faith.

Until next time, be blessed, and may God cover you.

Love,

Mahalia 💛💛
