Honesty With God

There's a story of a woman at the well, to her it was an ordinary day just collecting water. But then Jesus passed by and asked the women “Can you give me a drink of water”. This led to a conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman.

Later in the conversation Jesus tells her “Bring me your husband” and the woman responds “I have no husband”. Jesus says, “You answered correctly you have had five husbands and the one you're with now is not yours.” This encounter caused the woman to believe in Jesus and surrender her life to him. (John 4:4-42 KJV.)

Today, it was on my heart to talk about being honest with God.

Later in the text Jesus says, “ Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.” (John 4:23 NIV. ) I want to focus on that point Jesus made, worshipping in truth. To be truthful or honest means you are open, exposed, vulnerable, and nothing is hidden. This is how we should come before God, our relationship with him should be in truth. Being honest with God allows freedom to flow.

How would our walk with Christ look if we were completely honest before him? No masks, no excuses, just open honesty? I believe individually and collectively we will see a change and feel a closer bond because we have released the lies.

What are your lies?

What are the stories you have been creating that are just assumptions and not rooted in truth? What have you not been honest with God or yourself about? In order to move forward and be free, you have to be honest. Now is not the time to look the part but have no real power, to look like we are put together while inside many of us are broken and don’t even know it. Now is not the time to act like we are holy when we are so far from God. This is the time when the church, the body of Christ, must be honest with itself and with each other if we want to be effective.

Will you be a part of those whom God is seeking to worship in spirit and in truth? Can you allow yourself to be open, to receive what God has for you, and what you can bring to Him?

Today, let’s take the first step in being honest and letting go of the lies, the mask, and the perfect image we have worked years to master, and begin to show both each other and God our vulnerabilities.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that we will let go of the lies and reveal the truth to you. We want to be the ones who will worship you in spirit and in truth. We don't want to have a form of godliness but denying its power. We want to be vessels for your glory. We want to hold nothing back from you, a relationship thrives in honesty. God let your will be done and cover us. In Jesus name Amen.
