Looking in the Mirror

"Because we are all just looking for a savior, to rescue us from ourselves".
"Because we are all just looking for a savior, to rescue us from ourselves".

Looking inside the mirror of yourself is tough! have you ever just stared in the mirror looking at yourself? saying things like "Really did I just do that or  I'm mad pretty, or I'm ugly, or I look just like my mom, or I just look like my dad".  The mirror is the realization of your identity, your identity is "the self-concept rooted in your culture; meaning everything that we feel, think, and say is connected to our upbringing and culture" (for more on identity visit identity(Who are You)in the search icon on the homepage. )  We look in the mirror every day to make sure our outfits are just right, our hair is just right, our skin is just right, but I'm talking about those rare moments when we truly just stare in the mirror and we say out loud in our heads how we feel about ourselves. Do we take the time to make sure that our emotional well-being is right?

Let me share a story with you; a few years ago on a random regular day, I was just looking in the mirror and just analyzing my features, the way my nose looks, my eyes, my lips, my hair,  and my body. I didn't focus on my flaws but I told myself I was beautiful, no matter how cricket my nose is, or how I have an overbite, or how my eyes always look close lol! I focus on what was good about me physically, and then I dug deeper and spoke what I like about myself internally, how caring I am, how funny I am,  how smart I am, and so on until I felt better about myself. But no matter how much you focus on the good, the truth is we have a dark side to us, things we are ashamed of or wished that it wasn't apart of our personality, some things are darker than others but just as equally dark.  The dark side can range from being controlling, excessive lying, annoying, drinking, shopping, smoking, and sex problems. Some people even hold grudges and make-up stories in their heads that have happened and it's not even the truth.  Those things that we are ashamed of, or even hate about ourselves and don't want to do anymore, we can say NO to those things.

"We  all have demons and a dark side but the truth of the matter is, that savior we are hoping for lives within us"

Facing ourselves is what looking in the mirror is all about, the trend today is all about self-love and self-positivity but in order to truly achieve self-love is to face yourself. Inside of you is more than just the dark negative stuff. But you already knew that! the savior is inside of you! if you want change look within yourself and be the change you want. No one can help you and your problems but God and yourself.

" Christ is the savior you need"

Christ is the one who died for you because he thought you were worth fighting for (for more on this check out One Look).  I know people say all the time "how can you believe in some white god who grants wishes" and all these things. But that's a matter of opinion, Christ doesn't grant wishes, it's a relationship. that's why it's different from any other religion. Because Christ doesn't force us to pray, or live right, or believe in him, he just tells us the truth that he died for us, and he wants a relationship with us so he can show us, love. If you accept him into your life, you have the savior that you need in the inside of you to rescue you from yourself.

I grew up in a city where violence was happening all the time, and as the older I got, I realized my peers were in a trap, and honestly, the only way to escape the trap was to either leave and go to college or you died.  As I went to college I hear more and more of my peers were dying at the hands of violence, now you can have your own opinion about that, but I call it the dark side.  The dark side has no love, it doesn't care who you are, or where you're from. It shows you a temporary satisfaction pretending to be love until it sinks you into the deep, and all you feel is loneliness, hurt, and sometimes even numbness. Then you look into the mirror and you ask yourself "how did I get here?" but Christ is calling you out of the darkness so He can show you who you really are. Someone worth more than sex, money, drugs, fame, temporary love, someone who is worthy and can do far more than they can imagine.

"How you view yourself internally is what will show on the outside"

I hope now that when you look in the mirror you won't only see your flaws or your dark side, but you will see how amazing you are and what you have to offer into this world. Once you see how good you are you won't feel trap into the darkness but you will see light in the inside of you. The reflection of how you feel internally will show on the outside.  Reflecting on ourselves can be a good thing it can make us see the worst in ourselves and drive us to be better or drive you to feel worst and stay in the dark. But here at Mahalia's Inspirations I don't want any of you to feel trap inside your dark world but use that as fuel to push and try to become something you always wanted to be; for yourself, for your family, and for your future.  I encourage you for the remainder of the week try to write down on a sheet of paper all the things you don't like about yourself, read it, and then throw it away. Then look in the mirror and say out loud what you love about yourself and say it as many times until you view yourself that way.

The point of this exercise is to throw away what you don't like and you take in what you do like, bringing in positive energy, and boosting your self-esteem. If you want you can even keep the I don't like paper and hang it up as a reminder of what you don't want to achieve. Feel free to tell me how it goes in a private message at the message icon on the homepage on the sidebar or you can send me an email at @mahaliaanderson5@gmail.com  or you can comment on this post anonymously and tell me, I believe you can take the bad and make it good.
