Can You Give, When You Have Nothing

Hey guys,
Christmas is in a one day for those who celebrate it. I just want to leave you with a few encouraging words. So today’s message has two points : 1. When God is ready to bless you, you will be positioned. 2. Give when you have nothing. Even at your worst God can Turn things around.
This is the time of the year where people are going crazy looking for gifts and food to share with the ones they love. But I ask you Can you give when you have nothing? The most logical answer would be no I can’t give because I don’t have anything to give right. But even when it’s your last, can you still give? A lot of us are praying and wanting a change in our lives. And if we want our change or our expected outcome, then we have to be selfless and give. When you give, give with a loving heart. This reminds me of a story in the Bible with a servant named Elijah and a widowed woman. This woman had only few items in her house and she was very poor. She went out to get some sticks to cook her last meal with her son before she died. But little did she know she was positioned to be blessed. If you can be obedient in your giving, God will bless you more than you originally needed. The woman told Elijah that she only had a little flour. The Prophet said make me a loaf of bread from the flour you have then give it to me first…then make something for you and your son. The woman was obedient and fed the prophet. When she fed the prophet the Lord told her through the prophet that your flour and oil jar will never run out. God chose this woman to bless and then chose to put this story in the Bible for us. Why is that? To show us that even at our worst, God is making a way if we trust him.
In an earlier verse the scripture says “I commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee”. In other words, God positioned her. She just thought she was going to get some items for her last meal on her own, but God placed that idea to go get food so she can be there in that very moment, at that very time, so she could receive her miracle. But God didn’t just bless her she had to be obedient to the instructions that was given to her. She gave her last to someone else and in reward for being obedient and trusting God she was given more in abundance.
She thought this was the end. She had suffered, and cried long enough. She was at her lowest; you can say she reached rock bottom. But God picked her up and blessed her abundantly. Why do we go through low points? Why do we have to go through pain? Without impossible situations, we would never know that God is real and true.
Imagine: you have no food in the house, no money in the bank, barely any gas in the car. But one $5 to get by, you go to the store and then you see a beggar asking for money. Remember, all you have is $5. If you give it to this person you will have nothing. But out of the goodness of your heart you give your last $5. So you still walk in the store, and a stranger comes to you and says I’ll buy all your groceries. Then blesses you with money in your pocket and fills up your tank. That would be a miracle! You would be thrilled with joy! Now you received more because of your faithfulness. Can you give even when you have nothing? Can you trust God to provide for your needs even when you don’t see it coming?
My friends God is requiring us to have faith and be obedient. If he asks us to do something we need to follow his command because that is how we are blessed. In 1 Kings 17:24, the woman says “ Now by this I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.” In other words if it wasn’t for the impossible situation, we would never know that God is real. A song writer wrote “If I never had a problem; I wouldn’t know that God could solve them.” When we are faced with problems, and for some of us when we’ve reached our lowest points, that’s when we see Gods hand on our life. He always picks us up!
To conclude, this is to show God’s love towards us. As long as we are on this earth we are not immune to problems. But when God is ready to bless you nothing can stop his favor on your life. Just like the lady who was about to eat her last meal and the other lady whose sons were about to be sold. God positions you and will defend you and will pick you up when you’re low.
I hope you enjoyed today’s message and have a wonderful holiday season! See you next time!
